Things to Make Sure of When Welding

At Coffs Coastal Trailers, we always aim to be as safe as possible. In order to do that, we must always be in the proper safety attire when doing the job. In this blog, you will learn how to weld safely for those who are thinking about welding themselves may it be beginners or someone who has an experience in the welding industry.

Make sure that there are no exposed skin

  • Any exposed skin is prone to danger and pain. The damaging effects of UV rays and infrared rays can damage your skin. As much as possible, button up your collars and cover any exposed skin to avoid catching sparks.

Wear the Proper Attire

  • Short sleeved shirts and shorts do not belong in a welding site. Welding requires a proper safety gear including the gloves, helmet, shoes and clothing. You should always wear flame resistant clothing. Gloves, on the other hand, are not used to pick up welded material, use pliers to avoid burns. Leather boots provide you the best protection towards the sparks. Do not wear converses, tennis shoes or anything alike.

Do Not Look Into the Light

  • As obvious as it sounds, you should not look into the lights that welding emits for it cause you pain hours after the exposure called “arc flash”. Welding helmets should be fitted with a filter shade to protect the eyes and face of the one welding.

Breathe Freely

  • Fumes and smoke coming from the welding is a health hazard. When welding in closed spaces, these fumes may accumulate and may cause you trouble in breathing. Use a hood that can double up as an exhaust to make a barrier between the fumes and your nose as you breathe in and out. Some even require respirators in welding, so it is better for you to call a professional.

Though these tips can help you in your welding process, it is still an option to call a professional to help you.
